African Thunderstorms from Space

Team Expedition 30 crew on the International Space Station (ISS) capture lightning storm that occurred on the continent of Africa for about 20 minutes, on December 29, 2011.

At that time, ISS is right in the "Dark Continent", traveling from the southeast Niger, to the Indian Ocean, through Madagascar.

When the ISS toward the southeast, to the Straits of Mozambique and Madagascar, all of a sudden flash of a local storm visible in almost all continents.

Not just a series of flashes, from an altitude of 400 kilometers above Earth, the ISS also recorded an awesome Milky Way galaxy. Comet Lovejoy is also faintly visible in the surrounding galaxy.
