World Population 2 Billion Online in 2010

A third of the world's population will be connected to the Internet alias online by the end of this year. It was presented by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) on the latest reports on his official website.

It said the global number of Internet users has doubled in the last five years, and will touch the milestone of two billion users by the end of 2010.

Today, the ITU reported nearly 1.6 billion population of the world have accessed the Internet from home, an increase of 200 million compared to the end of 2009.

Note also 226 million new Internet users recorded in 2010Interestingly, about 162 million of which came from developing countries, including Indonesia. It is estimated that by the end of 2010, 21 percent of the population in developing countries will be connected to the Internet, compared to 71 percent of the population in developed countries. Speaking of developed countries, the ITU said that two-thirds of the world's population has been connected to the Internet from home.

"Access to broadband becomes a catalyst for this growth," said Hamadoun Toure, ITU secretary general, cited VIVAnews from TG Daily, Thursday, October 28, 2010.
"Broadband is the next crucial point, Internet access transformation technology of the future. It can create jobs, encourage growth and productivity, and support long-term economic competitiveness," he said.

"Not only that, broadband is also the most powerful tool we have to race towards the Millennium Development Goals five years into the future," said Toure.

At the end of 2010, the ITU estimates that the global broadband penetration will reach eight percent of the population. Unfortunately, penetration in developing countries is still low, only 4.4 subscribers than 100 residents. Compared to developed countries there are about 24.6 subscribers.
